Urban Artistry meets Campo Viejo Reserva Rioja

Campo Viejo Rioja Reserva 2011 Art Series
Sometimes it is not just the wine but the artistry of the label that intrigues us to purchase a particular wine. Such could be the case with Campo Viejo Art Series Reserva 2011 Rioja. It is not just the label; the tasteful tube packaging also draws us in. Not only is the wine excellent, but this Rioja, with its decorative urban art, also makes a wonderful holiday gift.

Campo Viejo Art

The artwork for the Campo Viejo Art Series is designed by Okuda and Remed, Spanish artists living in Madrid. This artwork is inspired by artists’ interpretation of the wine and vineyards. The opulent colors predominately orange to match the Campo Viejo Reserva label entices the viewer through simplistic geometric shapes. This art evokes a feeling of mid-20th-century op art that meets 21st-century urban street art. The artwork and its interpretation make a marvelous statement on the wine and the Campo Viejo winery.

Winemaker Elena Adell describes the marriage of art and wine in the Art Series perfectly on the Campo Viejo website. Both art and wine start with a blank canvas, and “The process then takes us on a journey of experimentation – be it flavours or colours – until we are satisfied with the final outcome. We encourage people to express themselves in the same way that our urban artists do – vibrantly, engaged, and full of life.”

Campo Viejo Reserva Rioja

With the Campo Viejo Reserva 2011 Rioja, one finds an excellent representation of the quality of wine produced in the Rioja region of Spain. The wine combines of Tempranillo, Graciano, and Mazuelo and ages 18 months in both American and French Oak, followed by another 18 months of aging in the bottle.

One finds a medium-bodied wine that exudes the savory flavors that typify the Rioja region. The aromas are those of tobacco, smoke, pepper, and currants. On the palate, the dark fruit flavors of cherry predominate. One also finds the wine displays tobacco, balsamic, and earthy qualities. The Rioja is vibrant and elegant with a nice long finish.

The packaging of this Campo Viejo Reserva makes for the perfect holiday gift, whether a wine enthusiast or not. The bottle and tube packaging with its urban artistry becomes a keepsake or a token to remember the wine contents inside.
